It didn’t take long to explore the immediate vicinity of the rather small lunar crater which houses the base, as there is limited territory open to interactive exploration. I went ahead and took the Lunar Rover for a spin despite the fact that it apparently isn’t useful to the repairs required in this first scenario. Yet despite the stringent time limit, the breadth of the challenge in this scenario is somewhat lacking. The game teaches you to make efficient use of toolboxes and robots and does a fairly good job of mimicking the very technical, labor-intensive aspects of astronaut Extra-Vehicular Activities (EVAs). Going back and forth to the equipment shed takes too much time and the lunar base is bound to run out of oxygen if you don’t organize and optimize your repairs. The game is fairly challenging in that I failed to accomplish the mission after my first few attempts. Screen shot of welding repiar from Moonbase Alpha. This reminded me of the old Operation game where you try to remove objects without touching the sides of the opening, only in this case it’s mousing between two points without going outside the circuit box. Indeed, besides traversing the lunar landscape, most of action is in making soldering repairs to various damaged equipment. The graphics are great, and if you like soldering, so is the action.
